Manages the education and exercise program planning of patients in Phase II Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
Consult a variety of individuals and/or groups regarding Phase II Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab, risk factor modification and lifestyle management.
Independently instruct in group cardiac and pulmonary education classes.
One-on-one patient education and consultation in accordance with POC.
Ensures exercise testing protocols are current with AACVPR/ACSM national standards. Collaborates with Healthplex Clinical Programs Manager, Cardiac Rehab Medical Director, and Cardiac Rehab Process Medical Directors for exercise testing protocol parameters.
Mentors and coaches Exercise Specialists in Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab.
Provides sub-max walk test training for new Healthplex Clinical Exercise Specialists, to include sub-max competency training for all Exercise Specialists.
Perform and interpret fitness assessments, including submaximal treadmill walk test with 12-lead EKG.
Assist participants with exercise; demonstrate correct anatomical positioning and proper mechanical practices utilizing machines and exercises to prevent injury and adhere to exercise prescription.
Effectively monitor patient vital signs including BP, HR, SaO2 and capillary glucose. Recognize and respond appropriately to adverse signs. Initiate emergency care according to facility policy.
Keep staff informed of updated research in Cardiac and pulmonary Rehab on a quarterly basis.
Maintains statistical database for Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab patients. Provides quarterly program monitoring statistics for department QA and regional outcomes database.
Ensures Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab patient chart paperwork is complete; includes completion of paperwork for 30/60/90 day evaluations and graduation testing
Participates in department Clinical meetings and huddles to plan interventions to improve CR & PR patient outcomes and to promote compliance with AACVPR/ACSM national standards.
Participates in strategic growth of program according to AACVPR and ACSM guidelines.
Participates and attends departmental and professional meetings, workshops and/or conferences to ensure continuous professional development
Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of Adults and Geriatrics and guide appropriate care for this population.
Demonstrate the knowledge to provide care appropriate for Adults and Geriatrics.
Other duties as assigned.
Masters Degree in Exercise Science Required
PhD in Exercise Physiology preferred.
Three to five years of experience in a cardiac rehab setting preferred
BLS Required at time of hire
