Overview

Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) plays a vital role in delivering therapeutic interventions to support patients in overcoming physical or developmental challenges. 

 

The PTA helps coordinate efforts to achieve discharge goals by enhancing mobility and activities of daily living, ensuring patients reach their highest level of function. Through collaboration with the Physical Therapist and other healthcare disciplines, the PTA promotes self-management of care, empowering patients and caregivers. As a patient advocate, this role prioritizes compassionate and effective treatment to enhance overall quality of life.

This position is eligible for the Northern New Mexico differential of $4.00 per hour. (This differential may be adjusted or discontinued based on business requirements.)

Responsibilities

  • Applies a broad range of therapeutic interventions to support rehabilitation of physical function and developmental disorders

  • Demonstrates understanding of growth and development principles across the patient lifespan

  • Oversees comprehensive rehabilitation plans addressing physical, psychosocial, and environmental needs

  • Encourages patient and caregiver autonomy by leveraging external resources to maximize independence

  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with interdisciplinary teams involved in patient care

  • Aligns treatment efforts with discharge goals set during initial evaluation and throughout care

  • Acts as a patient advocate, ensuring their needs and rights are prioritized

  • Performs additional duties as assigned

  • Provides care across diverse settings including inpatient, outpatient, long-term care, and community-based environments

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Physical Therapy 
  • Certificate Physical Therapy Assistant 
  • Requires detailed knowledge of physical therapy in terms of what and how work is to be done as well as why it is done, this level includes interpretation of data.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Basic understanding of the rules and regulations of the specific setting
  • BLS Required at time of Hire
