Cardiovascular sonographer (echocardiographer/ vascular sonographer) independently performs a variety of diagnostic cardiovascular ultrasound procedures. This position is multimodality with the intermediate to advanced knowledge of both cardiac and vascular anatomy, physiology, and disease states. All examinations are performed within standard protocols defined in the lab. The sonographer performs examinations in both inpatient hospital settings and outpatient clinic setting. Cardiovascular images are digitally acquired, and measurements obtained per protocols. Sonographer ensures patient safety through use of procedure protocols and policies. Continues to advance and evolve their technical knowledge in their field, intermediate skill level pursuing more advance skills and procedures.
Clinical and technical expert in the field who demonstrates increasing level of excellence through clinical practice, teaching/mentoring abilities, and leadership qualities. Mentors other technologists.

This position is eligible for the Northern New Mexico differential of $4.00 per hour. (This differential may be adjusted or discontinued based on business requirements.)
Performs routine echocardiograms independently for evaluation of heart defects or disease
Learns and progresses toward independence in performing stress and Dobutamine stress echocardiograms
Applies knowledge of cardiac anatomy, pathophysiology, and ultrasound principles
Uses independent judgment to determine need for additional imaging or bubble studies
Demonstrates clinical knowledge and judgment to manage patients during exams
Develops critical thinking to recognize, analyze, and resolve problems during exams
Completes charges for exams in EHR and initiates preliminary reports in PACS
Submits studies for IAC case review with mentor guidance
Stays current through seminars, workshops, and publications
Participates in monthly rotational on-call duties
Prepares exam room and equipment following infection control and safety protocols
Assists with machine malfunctions by contacting service and notifying lead techs
Maintains communication with physicians and nursing units regarding test results
Communicates with patients in a way they can understand
Functions as a team member to organize and prioritize daily responsibilities
Consults with and keeps lead techs informed of activities and issues
Maintains hospital, departmental, and specialty area competencies
Participates in and supports hospital policies and guest relations programs
Understands Joint Commission regulations related to the lab
Demonstrates knowledge of echocardiography practice
