A PACU Charge RN in Española, NM plays a vital leadership role in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, overseeing the recovery of surgical patients and guiding nursing staff to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care. This position requires clinical expertise in post-operative monitoring, pain management, and emergency response, along with strong communication and organizational skills to coordinate with surgical teams and manage unit operations. The Charge RN also mentors staff, enforces compliance with healthcare standards, and helps maintain a supportive environment for both patients and caregivers in a fast-paced setting.

This position is eligible for the Northern New Mexico differential of $4.00 per hour. (This differential may be adjusted or discontinued based on business requirements.)
Provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting individual patient needs, actions taken, and patient responses
Coordinates patient care through collaboration with the patient/family and healthcare team
Performs assessments as per unit standards and documents on appropriate database/assessment flow sheet
Initiates, utilizes, and documents appropriate protocols and standards of care
Administers medication and treatments as prescribed by physician or standard protocols and documents according to policy
Identifies and meets patient and family learning and discharge needs on admission and throughout episode of care
Evaluates patient progression toward outcomes per unit standards and documents through EOSS
Performs competently in emergency situations
Delegates or assigns aspects of patient care to healthcare team members commensurate with their validated competency
Assumes responsibility for the clinical supervision of LPNs and non-licensed assistive personnel
Provides leadership through communication about and validation of patient care
Assists with various procedures, treatments, surgical techniques or assigns to other healthcare team members as appropriate
Completes patient population/age-specific/procedure and protocol education and competency testing per unit standards
Demonstrates competency in required psychomotor skills
Assists in orientation of new staff or students and serves as a resource person and professional role model
Assumes professional responsibility for current nursing structure and clinical standards of care
Incorporates PHS mission (VVPS) in caregiving activities
Supports DON philosophies of shared governance and models of care delivery
Assumes other leadership roles (e.g., relief charge nurse) as required by the department
Meets professional requirements including age-specific training, mandatory yearly inservices, and documentation of continuing education
Participates in unit/department governance and quality improvement activities
Maintains positive communication and relationships with patients, peers, and other healthcare team members
Adheres to safety, equipment, and professional dress code policies
Maintains punctual and reliable attendance record
Performs other functions as required
